Past Lives - AkuRoku

     “Roxas!  Please!  Don’t go!” Axel called out to the blonde boy that was disappearing into the darkness.
     Roxas hesitated, turning his head slightly to address the redhead, “No one would miss me.”
     “That’s not true!  I would!” Axel pleaded.  He fought desperately against an unseen force that was holding him in place.
     The younger boy ignored his desperate cries and continued to fade into the blackness surrounding the two of them.
     “Roxas!!” Axel reached in vain, trying to stop the other boy, “Roxas!!!”

     Axel sat bolt upright in his bed, fighting to catch his breath as sweat poured down his face.
     To his left, a smaller body stirred, “mmm… Axel… nightmare again?”
     Axel stared wide eyed at the form beside him, as though it were about to devour him whole, “Roxas?”
     “Hmm?”
     Axel let out a sigh of relief and let his body fall back into the bedding.  He snuggled up next to the blonde boy, holding onto him possessively.
     “Nightmare?” he reiterated.
     “Yeah.  Same one.”
     “S'okay.  I’m here,” he cuddled up to his boyfriend.
     “The dream… it’s so vivid… so real and upsetting… Roxas I… I don’t know what I’d do if I ever lost you Roxas.” he bent his head down, burying his face into his boyfriend’s neck.
     Roxas rolled over to face the redhead, “I’m not going anywhere Axel,” he ran his hand lovingly along Axel‘s cheek, “No matter how vivid your dreams are, that’s all they are: dreams.  I’m here and I’m intent on staying.”  Roxas smiled reassuringly at his redheaded lover.
     Axel took another steadying breath, still trying to snap out of the shock of his nightmare.  He smiled back and gave Roxas a little peck on the mouth.  He settled back into the bed, letting himself drift back to sleep; his lover safely wrapped in his arms.  He didn’t know why he had this reoccurring dream, but he really wished it would just go away.  Of course, Roxas was right.  It was just a dream.  Nothing more.  Roxas was here with him and Roxas would always be here.  That was all that really mattered in the end.  Not some silly dream.
